Every Thursday we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan. This week’s chart covers September 29 – October 5, as Ghost of Yotei takes first place above the many other new releases this week! It’s a stacked week with a lot of debuts, as Yotei had to fend off three other new games to secure its top spot thanks to over 120,000 sales on its native PS5 system.
Second place goes to Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2‘s Switch rerelease, which sold only 48,000 units physically on launch, a gap of around 70,000 sales away from Ghost of Yotei‘s top spot. Close behind Mario though was the remastered Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles which took #3 with over 41,000 copies sold on Switch and an additional 24,000 units sold on PS5 and 12,000 on Switch 2. Combined, that’s over 77,000 copies between them!
The much-hyped Digimon Story: Time Stranger charted its PS5 release with almost 24,000 sales. This is smaller opening given the hype and discussion online, but a closer look reveals a reason for the mild debut. It appears stock issues affected the launch of the recent Digimon Story in Japan, with only a minimal amount of physical copies initially printed thanks to the publisher being unaware of just how well the game would be received by fans.
