Every Thursday we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan. This week’s chart covers August 25 – 31, as a wealth of new games debuted within the same week, giving us a stack of franchises from Metal Gear Solid to Story of Seasons and even Kirby to take a look at and compare.
Leading the bunch is Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, selling 63,000 copies physically on PS5 – and keep in mind this doesn’t account for digital sales. This is a strong opening, but so was Super Robot Wars Y, which sold over 60,000 units on Nintendo Switch and snatched up #5 with its 30,000 sales PS5 release too. In combined sales this makes Super Robot Wars Y the clear victor, but Story of Seasons takes a strong swing too, thanks to the latest Grand Bazaar entry taking both #3 and #6 on the charts with its Switch and Switch 2 Editions respectively, for a combined total of around 65,000 units.
