Famitsu: Stock Shortage Results In Sharp Switch 2 Sales Drop

Every Thursday we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan. This week’s chart covers August 18 – 24, as Nintendo Switch 2 sales take a nosedive compared to recent weeks. This is one of those weeks where we need to bring you the broader story, as the Switch 2 hasn’t just dropped out of favor suddenly with the Japanese audience!

There’s a national shortage of Switch 2 units in Japan right now, with major retailers like Amazon being completely sold out of the high-demand console. Even with limited availability, it still managed to sell 35,000 units over the week, which was far beyond any competition second place being the original Switch with almost 18,000 systems sold. The Switch 2 is rapidly approaching 1.9 million sales in the region within just a few months, so it’s still incredibly success and far more desired than any other rival platform – it’s just a tough week this week!
