Famitsu: Touhou Rhythm Game Outsells Astro Bot And Ace Attorney

Every Thursday we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan. This week’s chart covers Sept. 2 – 8, as Touhou Danmaku Kagura: Phantasia Lost‘s physical Nintendo Switch release managed to outsell both Astro Bot and Ace Attorney Investigations Collection in their first week on sale.

The rhythm game based on the Touhou Project shoot ’em up series sold 16,000 copies in its first week on sale, surprisingly enough to take #1 this week. Meanwhile, Sony’s latest and much lauded title Astro Bot only sold a bit under 13,000 copies in its first weekend on sale. These aren’t particularly bad, as the game could have legs, but it is a little disappointing to debut so low with such a refreshing game.

It hasn’t been a particularly great week for anyone outside of Touhou Danmaku Kagura: Phantasia Lost, as even Ace Attorney‘s latest collection of games only just made the top three thanks to 10,000 copies sold. It’s always a possibility these underperforming games are excelling digitally, but time will tell.

It’s a rough start for Astro Bot, but next week will give us a clearer picture on Japanese sales performance.
