It’s only been a couple of weeks since Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launched on Steam to critical acclaim following its PS5 exclusive launch back in February of 2024. We had assumed that sales were good given its prevalence in Steam’s best-selling charts even before launch, but thanks to insights posted on Bluesky by gaming industry analyst Mat Piscatella, we now know exactly how far that success went. In dollars sold, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was the best-selling game in the US market for its launch week ending January 25.
It’s not just the solo title that performed well however, with the twin pack combining both Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth reaching #3 for the same week in the US, thanks to figures obtained by Piscatella from Circana’s Retail Tracking Service. These statistics are incredibly promising for the PC release, and send a clear message to Square Enix who have now repeatedly expressed interesting in releasing their Final Fantasy titles onto other platforms closer to, or even at the time of, release on PlayStation systems.
It’s refreshing to see the success of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Steam, especially after Final Fantasy VII Remake had a troublesome launch. The first part of the Remake trilogy took over 20 months to jump from PS4 to PC, and was made exclusive to the Epic Games Store for another half a year until its Steam release.
