Capcom has updated their list of Platinum Titles, a list that documents the number of games that have crossed the one million sales mark throughout their history. After their latest round of financial results, Mega Man 11 managed to finally cross 2 million sales, a jump from the last update we had in 2022 that placed it at 1.6 million.
Despite originally being released in 2018, Mega Man 11 became and continues to be the best-selling game in the Mega Man franchise. It’s followed by Mega Man Legacy Collection at 1.6 million sales, with both titles serving as evergreen offerings in Capcom’s line of legacy franchises. They’re both frequently seen on sale too during select events throughout the year, giving gamers many chances to try out a Blue Bomber adventure at little cost.
Mega Man is typically thought of as a retro series, so it’s interesting that its best-selling game is one that is so recent. After Mega Man 11, the next individual numbered entry from the franchise in sales is Mega Man 2, which only sold 1.51 million units on the NES way back in 1988!
There’s clearly something that has always made the Blue Bomber appealing to gamers, but sales have somewhat struggled, with the franchise peak being hugely lower than Capcom’s other franchises like Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, and even Ace Attorney. Just a few months ago, the studio expressed their interest in creating more Mega Man games in their “highly valued” franchise, but were considering how to best approach the situation to create games on an “ongoing basis”.
