Prior to the release of tactical strategy title Fire Emblem Engage, Nintendo confirmed that the game would feature multiple waves of downloadable content similar to previous main series title Fire Emblem Three Houses. Previously, one wave of DLC had been announced, with two new equippable Emblems and bonus items and cosmetics included. During the Feb. 8 Nintendo Direct event, it was revealed which other characters from previous Fire Emblem games will be coming to Engage in the future.
Fire Emblem Engage sees players take on the role of the Divine Dragon Alear, who uses Emblem Rings to summon past Fire Emblem heroes and battle the Fell Dragon. The base game featured twelve Emblems, one from each previous title, including popular characters such as Ike, Roy, Marth, and Lyn. The first wave of DLC, which launched at the same time as the game, added two Emblems: Tiki, the young dragon from Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, and Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude, the leaders of the titular Three Houses. Cosmetic and stat-boosting items were also included.

Five more characters will be added as Emblems in the second, third, and fourth waves of DLC. Wave 2 will include Hector from Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, Soren from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, and Camilla from Fire Emblem Fates. Wave 3 will feature a duo Emblem containing Chrom and Robin from Fire Emblem Awakening as well as Veronica from Fire Emblem Heroes. Veronica’s inclusion is particularly unexpected, as Heroes is a spinoff mobile app rather than a main series game.
The trailer seems to indicate that special quests or tasks must be undertaken to acquire these heroes. It is possible that they will be recruited via Paralogues, as Tiki from Wave 1 currently requires. These tasks may connect to Wave 4 of the DLC, which will introduce a new storyline called “Fell Xenologue.” New characters were briefly shown interacting with Alear in the trailer, but no more information regarding the story’s content was revealed.
Wave 2 of the DLC is available starting today, with Waves 3 and 4 scheduled to release later in 2023. The Fire Emblem Engage Expansion Pass is currently available for purchase via the Nintendo eShop for $29.99. Purchasing the Expansion Pass grants access to all four waves of the DLC.
