The current season of popular battle royale title Fortnite revolves around “the universe’s greatest hunter,” and the characters from the Terminator franchise definitely fit right in. Sarah Connor and T-800 join an ever-expanding roster of new pop culture skins which include God of War’s Kratos, Halo’s Master Chief, and the titular Mandalorian.
Earlier this week, Fortnite teased the addition of Terminator characters via a mysterious portal which could occasionally be encountered on the map. While the portal would collapse if players tried to enter it, if viewed from the correct angle, it would provide a glimpse into a lab strongly resembling the location in Terminator 2: Judgment Day where T-800’s disembodied arm was kept. A gong sound, a sound effect often associated with the Terminator’s arrival on the scene, could also be heard.
Fan speculation turned out to be correct as developer Epic Games officially revealed skins based on both recurring protagonist Sarah Connor and the skeleton-like T-800 Terminator model. The Sarah Connor skin comes dressed in a practical black outfit with matching cap and sunglasses. She wields a Combat Knife weapon and is accompanied by a back bling based on the infamous severed T-800 arm. Meanwhile, the Terminator skin’s back bling is an HK Sky Net Uplink while his weapon is a Techno-Grip Axe. The new Terminator-themed emote has the characters raise a flaming hand high above their heads.
Chapter 2 Season 5, titled “Zero Point,” added a number of new challenges to Fortnite’s gameplay, including a bounty system inspired by the pop culture characters coming to the game. As so many collaboration skins have been added during this season, fans have no idea how many more might still be coming in the future.
