Grand Theft Auto V To Be Re-Released “Expanded and Enhanced” For PlayStation 5

Sony has announced that Grand Theft Auto V will be coming to the PlayStation 5 In 2021. This means that Grand Theft Auto V will exist across three different platforms, the PS3, PS4, and soon, the PS5.

GTA Online will also be heading onto the PS5, with the promise of exclusive new content to the release on Sony’s next generation console.

The original game from Rockstar will be “expanded and enhanced” specifically for the next-gen PlayStation, due to be release at the end of the year, as confirmed in an official announcement trailer seen below.

It seems unlikely that GTA V would become exclusive to the PS5 only. With this in mind, an announcement from Xbox Series X could soon be on the way. There’s also been no word on a possible Grand Theft Auto 6.

In 2014, Sony announced the PS4 edition of GTA V during its E3 show. Back in May, Grand Theft Auto V, still the biggest selling entertainment product in history since its release in 2013, has now shipped more than 130 million copies worldwide.

The new statistic came from Take-Two’s most recent earnings report, leading to the company to describe GTA V as “the must-have title of the current console generation”, making this reveal an unsurprising addition to the PS5 lineup.

Earlier in February, it was announced that GTA V had sold 120 million copies. As a result, it means that in the space of three months, the game shifted another 10 million copies. Recently, the game was made available for free on the Epic Games Store, crashing the site due to its overwhelming popularity.

More still, GTA Online continues to reap the financial rewards from microtransactions, all these years later. With Rockstar’s latest announcement, it seems there’s no end in sight to how far the developers will go to put GTA V in more hands.
