IO Celebrate Milestone As The Hitman Franchise Turns 20

This November, Hitman will mark its 20th anniversary since the franchise began. To mark the occasion, developer IO reflected in a blog post on some of the key milestones throughout the two decades.

The first game, Hitman: Codename 47, was released in November 2000, with IO revealing the franchise now boasts more than 70 million players. Since the turn of the millennium, the franchise has seen seven major games, with Agent 47 executing more than 100 missions across six continents worldwide.

IO adds that on top of all of that, “the franchise has developed into a multimedia brand with two movie adaptions, two novels, a comic series and two mobile games.”

With the latest installment in the series, Hitman 3, due in the new year, IO added that they were “looking forward to sharing more news and reveals in the next few months leading up to launch on 20 January 2021.”

They praised the franchise’s fanbase, thanking everyone for their “inspiration, passion, dedication and support that has fueled our drive to continually improve and create.”

In celebration of the franchise, aside from this blog post, IO announced that they’ve “lined up some moments of celebration that will enable us to reflect on what we have achieved over the years and to look ahead at what’s to come in Hitman 3

IO encourage fans to get involved on social media with the hashtag #Hitman20Years, by posting their experiences and favorite moments from the games, whether it be in the form of “trailers, fan art, gameplay clips, cosplay and anything else that reminds you of the past 20 years.”

In August, it was confirmed that the Hitman Trilogy would be supported by Playstation VR, while Hitman 3 was later confirmed for release on Nintendo Switch.

Hitman 3 is due for release across all platforms from January 20, 2021, including the new wave of next-gen consoles, the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Series S.
