The most recent trailer for the Resident Evil 3 remake featured new footage from Resident Evil: Resistance, confirming the presence of series mainstay Jill Valentine as a playable survivor.
This online-based “extra” comes bundled with the upcoming Resident Evil title. It will provide players with a rare, exciting look into the lives and struggles of ordinary Raccoon City residents as they cope with the outbreak of the deadly T Virus. Players will team up to face zombies, dismantle traps and go head to head with one another as they take on both heroic and antagonistic roles.
Previously, all playable survivors shown had been new characters, including the rather unfortunately named “Martin Sandwich,” who I will be playing as simply because of his name.
Capcom has confirmed that Jill will be added to Resident Evil: Resistance in an update, presumably coming shortly after the game’s launch. Jill—along with poor Martin Sandwich and the other “ordinary” survivors—will be going up against a roster of familiar antagonistic faces, from standard variety zombies to the terrifying Mr. X.
Players will also be given the opportunity to play the role of “Mastermind.” Like the “It” in a particularly deadly game of Tag, the Mastermind’s goal is to eliminate all of the survivors. Familiar Resident Evil faces will be available as playable Masterminds, including Ozwell T. Spencer and Resident Evil Revelations 2’s Alex Wesker.
Currently, both the Resident Evil 3 remake and Resident Evil: Resistance is scheduled for release on April 3, 2020, with a possible Nintendo Switch version in the future. Capcom has not made any announcements regarding whether or not the global COVID-19 pandemic will cause any delays in the game’s release schedule.
