Konami reveals continuation of Metal Gear series, post-Kojima

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain released last year to wide critical acclaim and commercial success. It has not taken Konami long to reveal the next instalment of the long-running and beloved series, Metal Gear Survive, that will release on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

The game takes place after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes where we see the characters transported to another dimension via a wormhole, in a typical Metal Gear headache-inducing plot. Unlike previous instalments in the series, this title will be primarily focused around four-player co-op stealth gameplay, with the main antagonists appearing to be crystalline zombie-like biological threats.

Also unlike previous titles, this game will not see the creative influence of Hideo Kojima, the creator of the series and gaming icon. It is unknown at this point who will be developing the game, and unclear how the loss of Kojima will affect the direction of the game and ultimately, the series.

In a press release Konami stated the game will be, “a fresh take on the series’ famed stealth elements, but within a unique co-op setting that is designed for a truly engrossing multiplayer experience.” It appears the game will be running on the same engine as the previous two titles, the Fox Engine.

The game will certainly build on the stealth experiences of the series, but more so on the refined gameplay elements of the previous two titles, with new weapons, equipment, enemies and of course, co-op gameplay. Not much of the quality can be extrapolated from information given thus far. Stay with us for more information on the title.
