My most anticipated games of 2016

A new year equals new games and 2016 seems to have a whole lot just around the corner, the thing with any game is it comes down to opinion, often you will like something or just show no interest in it at all. Of course this is all fine the great part is sharing all of our real differences and thinking about those games that matter to us and look like we will have fun with. So in 2016 what games matter to me and do I look forward to well here is my list of games that I look forward to in 2016.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (Playstation 4)

Uncharted-4-A-Thiefs-End

In 2015 I was finally able to do something I wanted to do for years, play the Uncharted games, I had thought they looked fun but the lack of a Playstation 3 made it impossible to play, but enter the Nathan Drake collection and I got to enjoy all three games in the series and it was great. Because I never played the original three games when Uncharted 4 was first revealed I did not honestly care less, even this time last year this meant nothing to me, but now after playing the previous games in the series all I want is to jump into another Nathan Drake adventure and Uncharted 4 looks brilliant. The gameplay seems to have made some notable changes (hopefully for the better), the graphics have seen substantial improvement to match the current system and overall the story just looks like it could be interesting. To be honest there is not a whole lot I have to say on this game other then I can’t wait for Naughty Dog to bring us another great game, and I believe after waiting that extra lot of time Uncharted 4 is certain to deliver and give us fans a nice send off from the franchise.

The Legend of Zelda U (Wii U)

Remember when we were looking forward to getting our hands on Zelda in 2015, so do I but yet the interest has not faded even with the passing of time. At this point in 2016 we know about as much as we did about this game at the end of 2014 but this does not hurt at all, we all wish for a new trailer or just a few more details but in truth the secrecy behind Zelda U is the best part. I am excited to run through the expansive fields of the open world, discover dungeons lost around the world and visit all the things I know nothing about, Zelda U is a game wrapped in mystery and as annoying as it is I love it the secrets are keeping my interest in the game at an all-time high and the fact that we have confirmation that Zelda U is coming in 2016 (for now at least) just makes things more exciting. I don’t know any game I am excited for more and it is all because there is so much to look forward to, Zelda U is looking to be the big game the Wii U desperately is holding out for.

Star Fox Zero (Wii U)

Star Fox Zero Arwing

Another returning game from last year, we have been waiting for years for a new Star Fox game to arrive and finally in 2016 it is happening. But wait, wasn’t Star Fox supposed to arrive in 2015, yes it was and it didn’t but this is a story of Nintendo and their major games, Nintendo says they are coming at one point and then the next second, “so you remember us saying insert game here was coming in 2015 well it is not instead 2016 will be when the game arrives, we think.” Good news for Star Fox Zero is that this game is definitely coming in 2016 Nintendo has already confirmed an April launch and I don’t believe they will delay the game again as the most recent delay occurred simply to ensure a better quality release, a good reason if I ever heard one. The difference between this and Zelda U is simple, first we have a confirmed release date, and second we actually know things about the game such as the different gameplay offerings. This time last year we knew nothing about Star Fox Zero besides the good news that the game was coming and for many of us this was reason enough to get excited. Fast Forward to E3 and we heard a whole lot about the game, the big details, gameplay and of course just how amazing the game looks, many may disagree but Star Fox Zero looks breathtaking a just a whole lot of fun. I can’t wait to load this game into my Wii U and blast through the cosmos in my trusty Arwing with Slippy and Falco at my side.

ReCore (Xbox One and PC)

ReCore

At E3 last year we were shown a very interesting game for the Xbox One in the form of ReCore, the trailer shown for the game was more cinematic and did not really give an idea of gameplay but this for me did not matter I was intrigued. These cinematic trailers although annoying do tend to give an idea of what the game will offer and ReCore certainly showed this to me, from what I could tell from recently rewatching the reveal trailer you will likely have to use a core of some kind to bring life to your ally who varies in forms. I assume each will have a different ability and change the gameplay, who knows when we get our hands on the game it might play completely different but I can’t deny how fun it is looking at this time. This is one example of why we need to own an Xbox One ReCore could be the systems defining game, and personally I hope it comes out as good as it looks. According the reveal trailer ReCore will arrive on the system in 2016 but we all know this could change but for now this is slated for this year, hopefully it will come about.

Quantum Break (Xbox One)

Quantum Break

It is not often that one Xbox One game grabs my attention let alone two but in 2016 there are two games on the system that I am really looking forward to playing. We have already discussed ReCore but the other one that has grabbed my interest is Quantum Break, if I am being perfectly honest I have no idea why I am so excited to play this game but I want to. Just from the selected trailers I have watched the game just looks like it could be interesting, I can’t say much gameplay wise as we all know that what looks exciting can turn out to be the exact opposite, but overall the simple concept afforded to us with this game excites me. I want to know exactly what is going to be delivered to me as the player in this game and discover if I have a new favorite game just waiting around the corner. Who knows, all I know is Quantum Break looks really cool and like it has the potential to offer a great amount of fun to my gameplay experience.

Honorable mentions

Now we come to my honorable mentions, I wanted to put these in the main list but for simple matter of some of these being remasters or even an updated version of a game for a new system such as Hyrule Warriors Legends I chose these to be simple mentions.

The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess HD (Wii U)

The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess HD Midna

Who doesn’t like a good Zelda game (well a whole lot of people but still), since Twilight Princess HD was first revealed during the last straightforward Nintendo Direct I have been excited and can’t wait to get my hands on the game. I enjoyed the Wii version which I played years ago and really look forward to March to be able to play a high definition version of the game.

Hyrule Warriors Legends (3DS)

Hyrule Warriors Legends

I am a huge fan of the Wii U game Hyrule Warriors, as we know the Wii U classic was my game of the year back in 2014 so another game is something to really look forward to. Hyrule Warriors Legends is looking to improve upon the original game is a lot of great ways including the likes of Tetra and Linkle which both look fun to play as, I’ll admit I wish this was Wii U rather than 3DS but even still Hyrule Warriors Legends looks like a game worth my time and attention.

Kingdom Hearts 2.8 HD Prologue (Playstation 4)

Kingdom Hearts 2.8 HD Prologue

What’s better than seeing the end of a great story, that is exactly what is offered to us with Kingdom Hearts 2.8 HD Prologue. If you never played any of the games on other systems then before you play Kingdom Hearts 3 you catch up on even more things that will make no sense, but to the real topic the game offered in this collection Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance is a great game and honestly one of the 3DS best games. So now will be a question of whether the console upgrade will pan out or lose something that the 3DS delivered to the game, honestly I don’t know but I really look forward to finding out. One question remains though, if Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming to the Xbox One why is this only coming to Playstation 4? Who knows the answer but any Kingdom Hearts fan should look forward to this release.
