When an online game experiences issues, especially with a key feature such as matchmaking, it is pretty standard practice to have issues resolved as soon as possible, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with Foamstars. In an in-depth blog post, the game’s producer, Kosuke Okatani, apologizes for the game’s ongoing matchmaking issues along with a list of all the changes coming in the game’s v3.20 patch. However, it doesn’t mention anything regarding matchmaking at all.
The issues surrounding matchmaking have been a longstanding issue since the game’s launch on Feb. 6. Okatani does mention matchmaking in his apology, but with no concrete plan to address it. His statement goes as follows: “on behalf of the Foamstars team, I’d like to apologize for the matchmaking errors many of you may have experienced during your gameplay. We are working to address this and other high priority issues.” We have yet to get any confirmation as to when these issues will be resolved and based on the current patch notes, not any time soon.

While v3.20 patch doesn’t fix the matchmaking issue, it does fix several of the game’s issues as well as adding new systems to the game. When the patch goes live on May 2, Foamstars will now feature a penalty system for those who abandon the game during matches or even the character select screen, as well as being idle for too long. Penalties include not being able to join a match for a certain amount of time that will vary on a case-to-case basis. The patch will also fix spawn camping on Radiant Rhythms Gardens as well as crashing issues on PlayStation 4.
