In crafting/life simulator My Time at Sandrock, you can improve your ingredient-harvesting, item-crafting, and relationship-building skills via studying various “Knowledge” categories. Knowledge is unlocked once your character reaches level 5. There are tons of Knowledge options available, divided into four trees: Gathering, Combat, Workshop, and Social. Points are earned when performing activities related to each Knowledge tree.
The Gathering Knowledge tree focuses on harvesting raw materials, including wood, stone, herbs, and the lost Relics of ancient civilization. It also includes the art of Sandfishing – trapping fish who dwell inside moving pools of sand. When it comes to the Gathering tree, it is recommended that you spread out your points, rather than focusing on one resource type, as all of them will need to be gathered as you complete Builder Commissions and other Quests.
Here are a few great Gathering skills to invest in first:
Stamina / Stamina Restoration
Stamina is the primary resource in My Time at Sandrock. Almost everything you do consumes Stamina, from breaking apart a pile of iron scraps to plucking a Sandworm out of the dirt. It’s important to maximize your Stamina as soon as possible so that you can make the most of each in-game day.
You can invest up to three Knowledge Points in Stamina Knowledge to gain the following effects:
- Max Stamina Points +5%
- Max Stamina Points +5%
- Going to sleep before 3AM restores maximum Stamina (effectively allows you to stay up until 3AM rather than 12AM)
Once you’ve invested at least one point in Stamina Knowledge, you unlock Stamina Restoration Knowledge, where you can spend up to two Points to gain the following effects:
- Food ordered in the Blue Moon Saloon restores 10% more Stamina
- All food consumed restores 10% more Stamina
Treasure Knowledge
Treasure chests are scattered throughout the town of Sandrock and the surrounding Eufaula Desert. They contain Gols (money) and valuable items such as clothing, weapons, or ancient Relics. Spending one Knowledge Point in Treasure Knowledge allows you to see treasure chests on the map, rather than having to simply stumble across them randomly on your adventures. If you’re short on Gols, you can also spend a second point to have a small chance to earn a large amount of Gols when opening a treasure chest.
Basic Gathering Knowledge
Before investing in any resource-specific Knowledge focused on wood, stone, or herbs, you need to invest at least one Knowledge Point in Basic Gathering Knowledge. This gives you a flat additional 10% experience when gathering resources using your Pickhammer. You may also wish to spend a second point to unlock a chance to earn double EXP when Gathering.
Once you’ve invested in these basic Gathering skills, there are plenty of other options to choose from as you progress through My Time at Sandrock. You can choose to specialize in one type of Gathering – such as mining, logging, or herb picking – you can become a master sand fisher, or you can become particularly adept at locating and identifying ancient Relics.
