New LEGO Batman Game Announced With An Open-World Gotham City

There were a lot of announcements from yesterday’s Gamescom Opening Night Live event, but one of them featured the return of a fan-favorite character that has been absent from the gaming scene for quite some time, but he’s back and he’s vengeance. Yes, the iconic LEGO Batman series is returning with a new instalment, with LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight revealed and set for a 2026 release. The game will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.

Instead of mostly sticking to one canon like the other LEGO Batman games, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will take inspiration from iconic moments across the Batman canon, including The Batman (2022), The Dark Knight (2008), along with the Arkham game series and more. Players will be able to explore an open-world Gotham City, similar to Batman: Arkham Knight, whilst fighting criminals with explicitly Arkham-like combat with combos, counters and dodges, all polished with the usual LEGO game flair and cartoonish comedy. Check out the trailer for yourself below.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will begin with a young Bruce Wayne, and follow his journey to becoming the iconic caped crusader of Gotham City, along with seeing him meet his allies and famous villains. The Steam page is already live, promising the “essential Batman story” along with the “signature LEGO charm”. The game is developed by TT Games, known for their work on the other LEGO game releases, such as the most recent LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
