Back in 2014 Electronic Arts and Ghost Games broke the trend of how Need for Speed games release, instead of releasing every year like they had been they took a year off following 2013's Rivals. This was followed by the simply titled Need for Speed in 2015 (a terrible game), following this new tradition this is exactly where the companies are staying as they have revealed the next entry in the franchise will arrive in 2017.
Ghost Games shared some interesting bits of information while writing on the Need for Speed site, the team released an infographic detailing all the things you, the Need for Speed community did while playing their latest game, Need for Speed. At the end of the post the revealed that they have learned a lot that will help them with developing the next game in the franchise for a 2017 release. They said:
“We are now building upon the foundations that have been laid with Need for Speed and delivering our next game in 2017.”
They have also confirmed that the Speedlist update is the last free content update for the game. Of course there is still room for paid content but I can't say how worthwhile that could honestly be. Lets just hope that with the next Need for Speed they drop the story and lose the online only both of which hurt the latest game in the series.
