On February 5, 2021, the samurai action role-playing game series Nioh will turn four years old. To celebrate, Sony recently published a post on their official blog announcing a number of exciting re-releases coming to the PlayStation 5 early next year. These new releases are both a treat for established fans and a way to introduce new players to the stunning dark fantasy re-imagining of Japan’s Sengoku period.
Remastered Complete Editions of both Nioh and Nioh 2 will be releasing for the PlayStation 5. These Complete Editions will include the original games as well as all DLC, including the not yet released Nioh 2 DLC chapter “The First Samurai,” which is currently planned to debut on December 17. In addition, both games’ graphics will be updated in order to be viewed in 4K resolution on the recently released next generation console.
Players who already own the Complete Edition of Nioh 2 on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the Remastered Complete Edition on PlayStation 5 at no additional cost. All data from the PlayStation 4 can be carried over, allowing fans to continue their samurai journey on a brand new console without having to start over again from the beginning. Keep in mind, if you own a physical disc copy of Nioh 2 for the PlayStation 4, you will only be able to claim the upgrade if you have a PlayStation 5 with an Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive.
But that’s not all! Sony has also announced The Nioh Collection, a bundle of both Complete Editions coming exclusively to the PlayStation 5. This brand new way of experiencing the series will include all DLC from both Nioh and Nioh 2, as well as the graphical and performance updates discussed earlier in this article.
