Octopath Traveler Travels to Steam This Summer

Rumors of an Octopath Traveler PC port were confirmed by Square Enix this morning through a trailer uploaded to the official Square Enix YouTube channel.

According to the trailer, the game will be coming to Steam June 7 this year. No price for the PC version is currently listed. This marks the first time a Nintendo Switch-exclusive game has become available on another console.

Octopath Traveler is an old-school game by Square Enix on the Nintendo Switch, released last July. The game advertises itself as a more traditional-styled, single-player JRPG that follows the stories of eight travelers setting out to explore the world of Orsterra.

Keeping with its traditional feel, the game features pixel graphics in its “HD-2D” style instead of 3D models. It was nominated for the Video Game Awards 2018 for Best Soundtrack and Best Art Direction. Octopath Traveler was also one of the GameLuster staff’s Games of the Year, where our writers praised it for its “interesting and unique characters,” “fun combat system,” and “fantastic visuals and music.”

This news follows last month’s reveal that an Octopath Traveler prequel in the form of a single-player mobile RPG is in the works, called Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent.

In our review of Octopath Traveler, we gave it a 9.5, praising its artistic style and story.

“All in all, there isn’t much I can complain about with Octopath Traveler. The game is simply superb. It’s a triumph in artistry,” writes Austin Suther. “Along with its silky-smooth gameplay, you’ve got yourself a JRPG that you shouldn’t miss.”
