Overwatch 2 Announces Launch Date Alongside New Hero

During the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, Activision-Blizzard revealed that Overwatch 2 will launch on October 4th, 2022. The anticipated sequel will offer a constantly evolving free to play experience that should hopefully feel both fresh and competitive for its players. Also revealed was new tank hero Junker Queen, who will join the roster on release.

Junker Queen
Australian-born ruler of Junkertown: the Junker Queen.

Junker Queen is the Aussie ruler of Junkertown, and the newest tank hero to join Overwatch 2. With her primary weapon as a shotgun and a big two-handed axe as the alternative, it’s clear that the Junker Queen prefers to fight her enemies up close and personal. The trailer seems to hint that she has a dash of some sort as part of her kit. However, no details surrounding her abilites were shared during the showcase. Junker Queen is the second new hero revealed for the Overwatch sequel after the damage hero Sojourn, who was playable in the May beta earlier this year for players lucky enough to get an invite.

Unlike its predecessor Overwatch 2 will feature a 5v5 multiplayer format. The shooter will also allow both cross-platform play and cross-platform progression. On top of that, Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard Entertainment, promises regular updates including new heroes, hero reworks, maps, modes, and premium cosmetics. In a statement on the upcoming shooter, he said that Overwatch 2 marks “the beginning of an always-on and always-evolving era for the franchise, and a recommitment to serving players with frequent and substantial updates planned well into the future to keep Overwatch 2 fresh and fun for many years to come.”

Overwatch 2 will launch on Oct. 4, 2022 and will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, with PvP content that will be free to play for everyone. For more on all things Overwatch, stay tuned right here at GameLuster.
