It’s been eight years since Overwatch first dropped, transitioning into Overwatch 2 a little over two years ago. As a celebration of its history, Overwatch 2 will be introducing Overwatch: Classic on Nov 12, which brings back the original launch hero roster, maps and game modes. Of course, this also means the return on 6v6 in this limited-time mode, something Overwatch fans have been asking about for a long time! Make the most of it now, because it won’t be sticking around for long, as the event ends on Dec. 2.
Whilst the game mode is based on Patch 1.0, the launch state of Overwatch, there are some changes being made to either modernize the experience or enhance the nostalgic feels. For example, whilst the 12 original maps will be featured, the maps that have been reworked for Overwatch 2 such as Numbani and Dorado will remain in their current state. Additionally, players will not be able to use skins on their Overwatch: Classic characters, instead only able to use the default skins from the base game.
There are no guaranteed plans to bring this mode back in future, and the developers stress on their official Overwatch blog post that this is in no way intended to signify the return of 6v6 permanently to Overwatch 2. Instead, it’s just a fun nostalgic game mode to let fans of the original Overwatch experience the game from the beginning again. Heroes will even be organized into the original four classes of Offense, Defense, Tank and Support!
