Phantasy Star Online 2 Coming To PC (Sorta)

It’s taken the better part of eight years, and releases on virtually every other platform first, but North American PC players can finally get their anime-flavored MMORPG fix with Phantasy Star Online 2. The game, which came out earlier this year on Xbox One, will be available for Windows 10 on May 27.

The game was initially released for PC players in Japan back in 2012. Since then, it has had several expansions, as well as releases on the PS4, Nintendo Switch, and recently Xbox One. The North American PC release will feature limited cross-play capabilities restricted to Xbox One at the moment. It will have all current quality-of-life updates and content expansions. However, the game will only be available through the Microsoft Store.  Currently, it does not appear to be available either through Steam, Epic Game Store, or GOG.com.

Based on the Sega JRPG series, Phantasy Star Online 2 will give players the chance to play as one of four different races across nine different classes, exploring new worlds, fighting dangerous monsters, and even forming twelve-man teams to take down deadly bosses. Of course, in between the level grind, they can hang out in social spaces, play various mini-games in their ship’s Casino, or compete in the ARKS League. The Phantasy Star Online 2 Head of Marketing for North America, Fred White, had this to say:

There’s a loud and passionate PC fanbase who has been patiently waiting for the North American version – we can’t wait to welcome them in. There will be login bonuses waiting for them with more surprises planned in the coming months.

Sega has also announced that live stage shows will be coming to Phantasy Star Online 2, and the first collaboration will be with virtual pop idol Hatsune Miku. To commemorate this partnership, Xbox One players will be able to pick up Arks Cash Scratch Tickets for a chance to obtain event-specific clothing and accessories.
