It’s been a while since we’ve had a Plants vs. Zombies game. PopCap started the franchise in 2009 with its first iconic tower defense game, taking a detour into the shooter genre with their Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare series before returning to the mobile tower defense genre with Welcome to Zomburbia last year. It seems PopCap may be preparing to return to their roots further, as a leaked title copyright named Plants vs. Zombies Reloaded has been spotted on an official Brazilian government website.
The listing has since been edited, but it was caught and shared by Gematsu on social media before the change was made. The trademark lists Plants vs Zombiess Reloaded for Android, iOS, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The title suggests the game will be a remaster or remake of their first title, and we’re hoping it’s a sign of future life for the franchise.
Nothing has been confirmed yet, but it’s hard not to be excited about the potential of more Plants vs. Zombies games. Personally I’ve always loved the Garden Warfare series, and its been a long time since the last game released in 2019. We’re not sure exactly how the original game could be remade, with it holding up very well and still being available to purchase on its original iOS and Android platforms, as well as Steam. We’re still looking forward to seeing what Plants vs. Zombies Reloaded becomes though – but I am sad they didn’t call it Repotted or Peplanted!
