Monster Hunter Wilds Was February’s Best-Selling Game In The US – Over 50% Chose Steam

We’ve heard nothing but good news with Monster Hunter Wilds commercial performance. With its record-breaking launch giving Capcom their biggest game debut ever, we knew sales were good globally, but new insights from Mat Piscatella via Circana confirm that the game was a hit in the United States specifically. Across all available platforms – PlayStation, Xbox and PC via Steam – Monster Hunter Wilds was the best-selling game of February in the USA. This is an impressive feat given the game launched on the last day of February! Perhaps even more interesting though is the way that the majority of players chose to play the game.

Despite some trouble with PC optimization and performance, more than 50% of Monster Hunter Wilds sales (in dollar terms) came from Steam. We knew the Steam audience for the game was gigantic after its launch coincided with Steam reaching new player count heights, but this confirmation is pretty eye opening! It feels like the audience for PC gaming has only gotten bigger over time, and with Capcom finally embracing day-one launches on PC for their games, it seems the choice has paid off.

Sales have been soaring for Monster Hunter Wilds, with it dominating February sales charts globally.

We’ll be expecting future approaches to big franchise releases to follow a similar pattern to Monster Hunter Wilds, given its absurd success. We’re looking forward to seeing how the game holds up in the long-run too, with content plans running through until at least the summer for Monster Hunter Wilds, and based on past game trends there will likely be a giant paid expansion coming at some point too. This is unconfirmed, but a fair assumption to make given the success of Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak
