These Are PlayStation’s Most Downloaded Games Of 2022

Sony had a great year in 2022, with first-party juggernauts like God of War Ragnarök coming together with third-party heavy hitters like Elden Ring to push a lot of game and console sales. We now know exactly which games were the most popular, thanks to the PlayStation Blog sharing the top downloads of 2022. Some of them are expected, but some surprise titles also make the list too. There’s a list for PS5, PS4, PS VR and free-to-play games, of which they are also split by US/Canada and EU region data.

In the US and Canada, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II takes the top spot on both the PS4 and PS5, whilst the EU’s top selling games for both console generations was FIFA 23. Both regions have the unstoppable Grand Theft Auto V as the second best-selling PS4 title, with the PS5’s second place position going to God of War Ragnarök in the US/Canada and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II in the EU, with Kratos taking third place in Europe instead. Sony’s other big first-party titles performed well, with Horizon Forbidden West at #8 on the PS5 in both regions, and GRAN TURISMO 7 taking #9 in US/Canada and an impressive #6 in the EU region.

God of War Ragnarök managed to soar on the PS5 download charts.

Sony’s big releases didn’t perform particularly well on the last generation of consoles, with God of War Ragnarök being the only new first-party game able to crack the top 10 on PS4, on the US/Canada chart. Older hits were far more popular on the PS4, such as Minecraft making the top 5 in both regions, as well as Red Dead Redemption 2The Last of Us Part IIThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Batman: Arkham Knight making appearances on the charts. Feel free to check out the PS Blog for the full lists.
