Suicide Squad Appears To Use Live Service Elements

The upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League by Rocksteady Studios has had a rocky start after various delays and the news that its co-founders were leaving the company. However, a new leaked image originating from 4chan shows what is in store for the AAA game, and it includes a battle pass. Its leak has made fans ponder which live service elements the game will include and how extensive they will be. A development source has reached out to Video Games Chronicle to correct the record.

The elements that have gamers worried are the Battle Pass and Store tabs. Both of these elements are typically found in live services, or ‘games as a service’ (GaaS) games, and these often come hand-in-hand with microtransactions and additional purchases. As video games have moved away from lootbox mechanics, the battle pass, as made popular by games like Fortnite, has become increasingly more common. To ease worries, a source tells VGC that the battle pass will only focus on cosmetics such as character skins. With this, the source has also verified the legitimacy of the image, seen below.

The leaked screenshot additionally shows the game having a mission-based structure. The tabs along the top of the screen also mark normal gameplay sections like loadouts for characters, a codex and options. The currency-like markers initially concerned some fans, but as reported by VGC, this is the XP used to power up and customize your heroes and their skill trees. The source for VGC added “you don’t start off debuffed and weak. You just start off great and can get ridiculous, like Arkham Knight’s Batman.”
