PS Plus Games For October: Need For Speed: Payback and Vampyr

Need for Speed: Payback and Vampyr have been confirmed as PS Plus’ free games for October. Both games will be available from October 6 to November 11.

In the meantime, Street Fighter V and PUBG: PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds are both still available on PS Plus until October 5, so if you’ve yet to poach them for your library, there’s still time to do so.

Need For Speed: Payback was launched back in November 2017 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It is the twenty-third installment in the Need for Speed franchise. Payback is set within the “fictional, corrupt gambler’s paradise of Fortune Valley,” where players have the choice of playing as three different characters. Payback allows players to customize their own vehicles, before taking on “an open world’s worth of events as you seek revenge on those who wronged you.”

In contrast to PS Plus’ first game, the second game could not be more different. Vampyr was developed by Dontnod Entertainment, the creative minds behind Life is Strange. According to the Playstation Blog post, Vampyr will challenge players “to embrace the darkness with this 1918-set, third-person action RPG with deep narrative choices.” Gamers play the role of Jonathan Reid, a doctor with vampiric tendencies. Players will need to employ their “supernatural abilities, as well as man-made tools and weapons to fight or flee the forces of evil and vampire hunters.”

Published by Focus Home Interactive, Vampyr was released in June 2018 and is currently available on the PS4, Xbox One, PC. It was later released onto the Nintendo Switch in October 2019.

In other EA-related news, Microsoft confirmed last week that EA Play would be coming to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Beginning November 10, the subscription service would be included with the current lineup of games and services for no additional cost. A release date for PC has yet to be confirmed by Microsoft, but it’s likely to be soon.
