Psychonauts 2 Delayed Until 2020

We’ll have to wait a little longer for Psychonauts 2. In an update on the crowdfunding platform Fig, Double Fine boss Tim Schafer announced that Psychonauts 2 has been delayed into 2020. “…We’re now targeting next year for release,” Schafer stated. “We know it’s always disappointing when you have to wait a bit longer, but we also know that you are an amazing, supportive bunch, who – just like us – want the game to be as good as possible. So we’re hopeful you’ll understand!”

This is the second time that Psychonauts 2 has been delayed. In 2017, Double Fine had completed the game’s first playable build. The studio then realized that the game needed more time in development. Thus, the game had been pushed from 2018 into 2019.

2019 has been a bit of a busy year for Double Fine. At Microsoft’s E3 2019 press conference, it was announced that the company had purchased the publication rights for Psychonauts 2 from the original publisher, Starbreeze. Despite Microsoft taking over, the studio has assured fans that the game will still release on PC and the PlayStation 4 along with the Xbox One. A trailer for the upcoming title was released as well, giving us good insight at what to expect from Double Fine’s upcoming title.

For those who need to scratch that itch for a Double Fine title, the studio also has another game coming out soon: RAD. RAD will release on August 20 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch. The first Psychonauts was also released for the PlayStation 4 last month.

The crowdfunding campaign for Psychonauts 2 took place in January 2016 after the game had been announced at The Game Awards 2015. The campaign raised over $3 million with over 24,000 backers.

Psychonauts 2 will release in 2020 for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
