Resident Evil Fans Figured Out How Tall Vampire Lady Actually Is [UPDATE]

02/04 Update: Resident Evil art director Tomonori Takano went on record to officially confirm Lady Dimitrescu’s height – adding an extra foot to the fan predictions.

Resident Evil Village’s Tall Vampire Lady,” also known by her official title of Lady Dimitrescu, has been one of the most popular topics of conversation on the Internet ever since she was first briefly revealed in a trailer for the upcoming survival horror game. Her stunning looks are a major reason behind her rapid popularity – in particular, the fact that trailers hinted she was much taller than the average human.

But how tall is she exactly? Well, we may not know for sure – but thanks to the efforts of some intrepid fans, we now have a much better estimate than before.

Lady Dimitrescu appears in person in the playable Maiden demo of Resident Evil: Village, which features the title character attempting to escape from her castle. The demo revealed a number of new facts about everyone’s favorite Tall Vampire Lady. Her first name is Alcina, she lives together with a number of vampire “daughters” who she may have created herself, and her elegant castle was apparently constructed sometime during the 15th century.

It is this last fact which allowed fans to take a guess at just how big Alcina Dimitrescu is. One part of the demo features the tall matriarch herself standing in a doorway while confronting the Maiden. Fans compared the entranceway to a real-life 15th century French door currently on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This finding was first reported by Ash Parrish of Kotaku.

The door, which is quite creatively titled “Door” on the Museum’s website, is 86 inches tall, or slightly over seven feet. Because Lady Dimitrescu has to duck down and bow her head in order to pass through the doorway, fans have estimated that she is approximately eight feet tall.

This height makes perfect sense, as the imposing vampire may be inspired by the Japanese urban legend of “Hachishaku-sama,” or “Hasshaku-sama,” aka “the Eight-Foot Tall Woman.” This modern horror is described as wearing a white dress and a wide-brimmed hat and preferring to prey on children, all descriptors which also apply to Alcina Dimitrescu. If this theory is true, then the Tall Vampire Lady is not the first video game character inspired by this particular yokai – fellow horror game Fatal Frame V: The Maiden of Black Water included a similar-looking ghost simply known as “Tall Woman.”

Hopefully, Resident Evil Village will include official confirmation of Lady Dimitrescu’s height when it launches on May 7, 2021 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
