Rick Sanchez Joins MultiVersus Today

The latest addition to Warner Bros. free-to-play crossover fighting game MultiVersus is Rick Sanchez, the titular grumpy scientist from the animated series Rick and Morty. Rick is the third character added to the game’s “Season 1” slate of additional characters. He is available beginning today, September 27, at 10AM PT. Rick is an “Expert” level character who will cost 3,000 gold for players wishing to add him to their roster.

Fans were predicting that Rick would make an appearance in MultiVersus after his sidekick Morty was announced as Season 1’s debut character. Morty was released in late August, and fans suspected that Rick would follow soon after. However, the second Season 1 character was instead Gizmo from the 1984 comedy horror film Gremlins, whose inclusion in the game was a surprise to many fans. Rick was officially announced as the third character in the season and given a September 27 release date. Other characters confirmed to be coming to MultiVersus as part of Season 1 include Stripe from Gremlins and the DC Comics character Black Adam.

Rick is a member of the Mage class in MultiVersus, meaning that he will attack from a distance and focus on hitting his enemies with projectiles. He can attack using fart bombs, escape across the battlefield via portals, and summon a Meeseeks who can either punch his opponent or attack them with a golf club. Early gameplay teasers indicate that Rick will be a character who utilizes “hit and run” tactics, sending out his projectiles and then using his portals to avoid taking any damage.

MultiVersus is currently available for a number of platforms including PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. It released in early access in July 2022 with a limited roster, and developer Player First Games and publisher Warner Bros. plan to continue adding more characters beyond those already announced for Season 1. The current playable roster includes iconic Looney Tunes trickster Bugs Bunny, several DC Comics heroes such as Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, and Arya Stark from Game of Thrones. The game has received generally positive reviews, with many critics praising the clear love and care shown for the roster of beloved characters.
