Sonic Origins Plus Rated In South Korea

It appears that Sonic Origins will be receiving an upgraded release with the recent leak of a Sonic Origins Plus. Ratings for Sonic Origins Plus have been spotted in South Korea, less than a year after the release of Sonic Origins in June 2022. Sonic Origins was a remaster of the first four games in the franchise which included Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic CD, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. This saw them remastered, after first being released for the Sega Mega Drive and Genesis.

Sonic Origins Plus can be found on the South Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee’s official website (spotted by Gematsu). The rating suggests that SEGA is following in their footsteps of a previous Sonic game, Sonic Mania, which included the release of a Plus version. Sonic Mania Plus included extra content including a new mode and new characters. It was released approximately a year after the original release.

Sonic Origins was released in June 2022, to middling fan reception.

There’s no extra information about what this Plus will include yet, but Sonic Origins did not have the smoothest of launches, with some gamers noticing the game containing bugs. With a Plus upgrade, we hope this time it will be a bit more polished. NintendoLife wonders if Sonic Origins Plus will be similar to the 2004 Sonic Mega Collection Plus, which in turn was a rerelease of the 2002 GameCube Sonic Mega Collection. This update included “two games exclusive to the Japanese version of Mega Collection, six Game Gear titles, and extra stuff in the Museum.”

The Sonic franchise as a whole has been performing well recently with it speeding past 1.5 billion sales and downloads in Oct. 2022. Furthermore, the Nov. 2022 release of Sonic Frontiers is now almost at 3 million sales. It seems as though the franchise is still on the up, even though it was first released way back in 1991!
