Sons of the Forest: How to Craft a Turtle Shell Rain Collector

To say that Sons of the Forest is a huge success is an understatement. Seems like everyone is playing the game – and enjoying it quite a bit! However, one of the main points of criticism was how the game was released (in early access) and the overall lack of content and mechanics compared to the original The Forest.

Thankfully, Endnight Games, the game’s developer, have been updating Sons of the Forest constantly, adding story content, new bosses, new items, and expanded building mechanics. One of those mechanics that was missing was the ability to collect water by using a turtle shell, which caused a sudden spike in happiness in the turtle population around the island. However, those days are over – sorry turtles – and it’s time to gather some shells. This guide teaches you how to craft a turtle shell rain collector in Sons of the Forest.

How to Craft a Turtle Shell Rain Collector in Sons of the Forest

Crafting overall is a very simple process in Sons of the Forest. All you need to do is collect the necessary materials and have a look at your Guide Book. That is the case with the turtle shell rain collector, also known as the Water Collector or Rain Catcher. So don’t think you will be entering mutant-infested caves or making it from scratch with a 3D printer!

To craft this collector, you will need to collect the following materials: 16 sticks, and, of course, 1 turtle shell. You can find the sticks pretty much everywhere, so look for them laying on the ground in the forest or even on the shoreline. To get the turtle shell, you will need to find some turtles. Since turtles won’t give up their shells just by asking, you will have to kill one and then use your knife to extract it. A difficult thing to stomach, I know.

Once you have gathered all your materials, go ahead and open your Guide Book by pressing B and opening up the Utility portion (hold X to switch modes). Locate the Rain Catcher recipe and then click on the image. Choose a nice spot to place your new turtle shell rain collector and you will begin to place the 16 sticks as a base. Then you will place the still bloody turtle shell on top of it and that’s it. Don’t worry, you won’t get sick from drinking water collected by it.

And that’s pretty much it! Be sure to continue boosting your survival chances by either getting to know How to Get and Use Firewood in Sons of the Forest or satisfying your inner completionist by learning How to Unlock Every Achievement in Sons of the Forest. Good luck and enjoy your fresh turtle water concoction!
