Sony Announces God Of War 20th Anniversary Plans – But No New Game

Next week, God of War will officially be 20 years old! It was way back in 2005 when the franchise first started, with nobody aware at the time how Kratos would become a key mascot in PlayStation’s gaming library – and even one day make the jump to PC. Sony have now officially laid out their plans for fans to celebrate the two decades of God of War, but sadly there’s no sign of the rumored remaster collection of classic games.

The remaster was only ever a rumor and never a promise; so try not to let it disappoint you from Sony’s grand plans! It starts with a surprise free DLC drop for God of War Ragnarök, with the new ‘Dark Odyssey Collection’ giving Kratos his classic appearance with a matching armor set along with a shields and weapons bundle – and Dark Odyssey outfits for Atreus and Freya! This free cosmetic DLC bundle will coincide with a patch that allows players to edit the appearance of Kratos’ equipped gear, and releases on March 20.

There will also be Steam Points Shop anniversary items and a free PSN Avatar for players across PC and PS5 dropping with the Dark Odyssey Collection DLC on March 20. If you’re new to the series, there’s a sale on God of War and God of War Ragnarök on Steam running from now until March 20, or you can grab both games on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers for no extra cost.

God of War 20th Anniversary Retrospective book set
This two-volume book set will serve as a retrospective chronicle of the last 20 years of God of War.

If it’s physical goods you’re looking for, there will be new vinyl releases ranging from an entire 13-disc vinyl set to individual LP sets for each of the original trilogy God of War games, new art prints, a Jörmungandr plush toy, a God of War 20th Anniversary Retrospective book and more. There will even be a Gallery Nucleus exhibition in Los Angeles for those lucky to attend and browse an artistic celebration of God of War history!
