Ohhhhh…Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS! Who’s getting a remake on June twenty-three — that’s right, sing it with me — SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS!
That’s right, Bikini Bottom dwellers. Rehydrated, the eagerly awaited remake of 2003 classic 3D platformer Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, has been officially announced for release on June 23. The announcement debuted on the official Twitter account of publisher THQ Nordic:

Players take control of the brave, determined fry cook SpongeBob, the dim-witted but large-hearted Patrick Star, or the adventurous Sandy Cheeks as they fight a horde of robots created by the villainous Plankton. Avoid obstacles, complete platforming levels, and explore a redesigned Bikini Bottom designed with even more vivid color, detailed environments, and classic cartoon-style character animations than ever before.
Battle for Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated will be released for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Windows. It will feature an all-new multiplayer mode as well as remastered content previously cut from the game’s original version, including a boss battle versus a robot form of SpongeBob’s best frenemy, Squidward Tentacles.
Preorders for the PC and Xbox One versions are currently available, while preorders for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 editions of the game will be announced at a later date.
Two special editions are also available for purchase: the Shiny and F.U.N editions. The F.U.N edition, marketed as the complete Rehydrated experience, features a horde — or would that be a school? — of exciting extras. These include stickers, lithographs, tennis socks, Tiki keychains, and figurines of Patrick, Sandy, and of course, SpongeBob himself (completed with a flexible tongue and the legendary Golden Spatula). It is available for $300. The Shiny Edition, which retails for $150, does not include the Tiki keychains or the Sandy or Patrick figurines.
