Square Enix just sent out a press release promoting the October release of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, and along with news about the upcoming game and its physical release options, they also gave a surprising update on Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age. They randomly revealed that the 2017 RPG has shipped almost 8.5 million units across the world, an extraordinary feat that firmly establishes it as the best-selling Dragon Quest title to date.

It was only December last year when we last got a sales update on Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age, where Square Enix stated the game has shipped over 7 million units globally. This suggests that in just the last six months, Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age managed to ship an additional million units globally. We’d say it’s surprising, but Dragon Quest XI has been an incredibly popular entry since it first released.

Dragon Quest XI took the ever-popular series to new sales heights.

In its original edition, Dragon Quest XI has been available on 3DS, PS4 and PC, before the enhanced Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age released on PS4, Xbox, Switch and PC. through 2019 and 2020. It feels like Dragon Quest XII is still an eternity away, but we can only imagine how successful that entry will be.
