Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake Is Still Alive, Confirms Studio CEO

It’s been a long time since the 2021 announcement that a remake of BioWare’s legendary Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was coming as a timed exclusive to PS5 and PC. In new statement from the developers, the first we’ve heard from the game in an entire year, we’ve officially had confirmation the remake is still in active development.

Speaking to Game File, the current CEO of developing studio Saber Interactive, Matthew Karch, said that the game is still in development, but he was unable to comment more without Disney’s input. This was expanded on by COO Tim Willits over on X (formerly Twitter), who stated that “everything that we have talked about is still in development”. It’s nice to know Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic’s remake project is alive, even if we’ve been waiting a while.

KOTOR 1
The 2003 classic Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic is still awaiting its remake.

It’s been a rough road for the Knights of the Old Republic remake, with many fearing it was or eventually would be cancelled. Originally developed by Aspyr, they were since removed from the project in August 2022, replaced instead by Saber Interactive (both owned by Embracer Group), with Saber then being sold off to a third party, led by founder Matthew Karch. We were told the game is “alive and well” last April, and then didn’t hear any more until Karch and Willits both spoke up this week. Some news is better than no news, so for now we’ll just try to wait patiently for our next update.

Do you think we’ll see you again in 2026 reporting the same development update or do you think we could see the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake soon? Has the long development of Knights of the Old Republic got you concerned or do you remain optimistic?
