Super Mario Odyssey Reaches 10 Million Copies Sold

According to an update by Nintendo featuring the Switch’s best-selling titles, Super Mario Odyssey has now sold over 10 million copies.

The much-loved game released last October, and was immediately met with critical acclaim. In just three days, Odyssey sold over two million units, landing it as the best-selling Mario game ever in Europe and the U.S.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild came in behind Odyssey in sales, but there was nothing to cry home about for these titles, as they have both sold a combined 17.7 million copies. Interestingly enough, Breath of the Wild was the big award winner, with Odyssey coming in a close second most of the time.

To put these numbers into perspective, as of March 31, right under 18 million Switch consoles had been sold. With 10 million Odyssey units sold, that means (at least figuratively speaking) over half of Switch players own a copy of Odyssey.

Also, a total of 63 million Switch games have been sold to date. This means a little more than 15 percent of games sold for the Switch have been none other than Super Mario Odyssey.

In its update, Nintendo also announced that it is planning to sell at least 20 million more Switch consoles and an ambitious 100 million more games. While this target seems a bit crazy, with fan-favorite games like Super Smash Bros. on the horizon, it might be feasible.
