The Last Of Us Gets First HBO Teaser With Joel, Ellie & Bill

The first exclusive footage from HBO’s adaptation of The Last Of Us has been released – and for want of a better word – chills. As part of HBO’s annual collection of teasers for upcoming shows – the twenty-second teaser for the adaptation is left until the end.

The footage opens with Joel and Ellie crossing a bridge in the middle of winter, before Bella Ramsey’s voiceover as Ellie plays over footage of the two survivors amidst forsaken, desolate landscapes. “Everybody I have cared for, has either died, or left me.” Ellie says, followed moments later by Pedro Pascal as Joel, and his iconic remark that Ellie “has no idea what loss is.”

We get our first glimpse of Nick Offerman as Bill. He can be seen pulling off a gas mask and appears every bit the survivalist nut we’ve been expecting him to be. He’s wearing a leather belt stocked with shotgun shells in front of a white house – presumably, one of many unoccupied buildings in an empty town. The teaser further offers us our first glimpse of Joel’s daughter Sara (Nico Parker).

In a scene that mirrors the game’s gut-wrenching opening sequence, Joel is seen carrying his daughter. Additionally, we get a glimpse of Ellie with her switchblade, the Cordyceps fungus spreading over walls, and a sweet moment between Joel and Ellie as he gives her a gun.

We’ve yet to receive an official full trailer for The Last Of Us – but with the arrival of the teaser – we might not need to wait for much longer. Supporting roles include Gabriel Luna (Tommy), Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett (Bill and Frank respectively), Storm Reid (Riley), Merle Dandridge (Marlene), Anna Torv (Tess), and in-game Tommy actor Jeffrey Pierce as an original character.
