The Last Of Us Part II Is Sony’s Biggest Launch For The PS4

The Last Of Us Part II has been announced as Sony’s most significant launch on the PS4. This is based solely on physical copies sold, without the inclusion of UK digital sales. Despite this, the number of downloads is expected to be high as a result.

In light of this news, The Last Of Us Part II has beaten Animal Crossing: New Horizons to the top spot for the year’s most significant release currently. Launch weekend sales were close to 40 per -cent higher than the latest Animal Crossing game.

The sales figures for the post-pandemic sequel even beat Naughty Dog’s earlier title, Uncharted 4.

Despite Naughty Dog’s sequel claiming the top spot, Nintendo Switch games still maintain a firm grip on the top ten, as seen in the current top ten list below. The games include Ring Fit Adventure, 51 Worldwide Games, and Pokémon Sword.

The Last Of Us Part II was released last week on June 19 and is now available on PS4. In a recent interview with British GQ, game director Neil Druckmann discussed the future ahead of the release of The Last Of Us Part II.

Druckmann said, “As you start wrapping things up, creatively, there are fewer and fewer responsibilities, and my mind can’t help but think about the next thing.”

He teased, “So, yeah, the next thing could be a Part III, the next thing could be some new IP.”

Beyond The Last Of Us II, there is still the forthcoming HBO adaptation, a developing production between Druckmann and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin.

On the HBO series, Druckmann said, “It really lets us focus on the characters and the drama and show you other aspects of those characters.”
