Ubisoft has made an official announcement that The Division 2 is under development.
With the success that the first game has brought to the company, it has always been very likely that a sequel would be released at some point.
Julian Gerighty, creative director for the game, stated that “it wasn’t an easy decision” but that “there are so many stories and so many experiences we want to explore within the world of The Division that we really thought a sequel was the best way to explore these things.”
Gerighty’s statements were supposedly in response to fans of the series who wanted the original game to continue on with updates as opposed to bringing in a sequel.
This does not mean the original Division is being tossed to the wayside, though. Gerighty also stated that two new updates for the original game are also to be released, adding Legendary difficulty reworks for four existing missions and an added “Shields” feature that will unlock items for the sequel.
Ubisoft posted an official statement claiming that no other details for the game will be released until E3. More and more, it seems that E3 2018 is shaping up to be a good one.
