Ubisoft Dismantles Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown Development Team, Sequel Refused

Perhaps unsurprisingly given Ubisoft’s behaviour lately, the team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has reportedly been dismantled, with no future for the game in sight. This includes a refusal to the request of the development team to make a sequel for the game, and also to the potential of more expansions to the base game. The news comes from French video game journalist Gautoz who has allegedly heard from Ubisoft devs directly, along with a translation summary graciously provided by ResetEra user Arubedo

Gautoz states that the future of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was determined shortly after the game’s release, likely due to Ubisoft’s cutthroat approach to sales expectations. The development team, passionate for their creation, did put up a fight to get either a sequel or expansions for the game, but their requests were shut down, with staff instead put on other projects that could be more profitable long-term.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Hits Amazing Deal at Best Buy
It may have been a hit with the fans, but Ubisoft wanted more from Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown.

It’s also said, again thanks to the Arubedo’s translation, that one reason provided for the refusal to make a Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown sequel was the potential to “cannibalize long-term sales” of the first game. Effectively, Ubisoft thought it would be better for the game’s financial success to cut it off and leave it dead before it could go any further. Certainly an interesting approach.

Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown was met with both critical and fan acclaim, with a score of 86 on Metacritic, and an almost equal 8.5 user score based on just under 1000 user ratings. We even gave it a 9/10 in our own review earlier this year, so it’s a shame to see we won’t be getting more from the team anytime soon.
