In was recently reported that for the first time in years we would be seeing no new main series Assassin's Creed game for 2016, for people like me this was sad news and I hoped it was just a bad rumor given how great the last three games in the series were. The games particularly Unity were not without their problems but still they were great and made me look forward to where the series would go in 2016, sadly Ubisoft has confirmed no new Assassin's Creed for 2016.
Partly this decision comes down to reassessing the issues of the past games and rethinking the franchise, but it also comes down to the likes of Unity and the slow launch of Syndicate.
“This year, we also are stepping back and re-examining the Assassin’s Creed franchise,” Ubisoft explained in a statement. “As a result, we’ve decided that there will not be a new Assassin’s Creed game in 2016. Since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, we’ve learned a lot based on your feedback. We’ve also updated our development processes and recommitted to making Assassin’s Creed a premier open-world franchise. We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground.
“We’ll have more to share on all of the above soon. In the meantime, we want to say thank you to our millions of fans around the world for your continued support.”
Sad news indeed but hopefully this will allow for the series to come back stronger in 2017, if you still need your Assassin's Creed gameplay though there is a new one that recently released. Assassin's Creed Chronicles is not like its main series bretheren but you should have some fun playing the games in a new way. Assassin's Creed Chronicles is available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC and will be coming to Playstation Vita sometime in the future.
