Steam users will soon be able to play their music, and manage playlists directly through the Steam interface. The Steam Music Beta is on the way first for users in SteamOS and those playing on Big Picture mode, with desktop features being rolled out a while later.
This likely means that users will no longer have to leave their current game session or tab out in order to change tracks and manage their music, as the service syncs users’ music directory to their Steam overlay, sorted by album and artist. Controller users can press the guide button to access the player, while those using keyboard and mouse can find the player on the main menu for Big Picture mode.
Users can also discuss what features they would like to see implemented into the service by joining the Steam Music Community Group on the Steam forums.
