The Xbox Series X isn’t exactly the most popular system on the market, especially in Europe. In 2024, sales of both current generation Xbox consoles in Europe fell by almost 50% – a far bigger amount than Sony’s PS5 with 20% sales drop, and the Nintendo Switch which came down by only 15%. Since these numbers were released there have been reports of Xbox console shortages in parts of Europe, such as Poland back in December, with little said on why that is. The mystery is growing bigger however, as we’ve been investigating and they seem to have now disappeared from the United Kingdom too.
One look at the official Xbox store in the UK already paints a bleak picture, as the entire Xbox Series range is out of stock, except the refurbished (pre-owned) Xbox Series X and the 1TB Series S. We took our search further, and decided to check with every single partnered Xbox retailer that Microsoft supports – none of them have an Xbox Series X available to purchase. The closest we got to being able to find one was on Amazon UK, and even that was being sold by a non-official reseller with one left in stock.
It’s strange to see the console so absent from the market, but weirder still that Microsoft has been so silent on the matter. As the platform holder has shifted strategy towards putting Xbox titles on PC and PlayStation, there have been rumblings of them withdrawing from the console market to some degree eventually, and occurrences like this do make that seem somewhat credible. We’re sure that Microsoft will eventually restock the Xbox Series X in the UK, but for now it’s gone missing, and nobody knows where it is. We’ve reached out to Microsoft for comment and will update this article’s contents should we hear back.
