Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA launches on Switch 2 February 25, 2027

NIS America and Falcom will release Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 25, 2027, the companies announced in a trailer on NIS America’s official YouTube channel.

The Switch 2 version of the action JRPG supports frame rates of up to 120 FPS and adds GameShare co-op, letting a second player join in and “save the day together,” as NIS America puts it in the announcement. The port also adds Spanish-language support for the first time in the game’s history.

A decade of ports leads to Switch 2

Ys VIII first launched on PS Vita on July 21, 2016, and has since landed on PS4 (May 25, 2017), PC via Steam (April 16, 2018), the original Nintendo Switch (June 26, 2018), Stadia (April 1, 2021), and PS5 (November 15, 2022). The Switch 2 version is the game’s first appearance on Nintendo’s newest hardware.

The release follows a familiar pattern for the platform. Nintendo’s enhanced Switch 2 release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A showed the same playbook: an existing game carried over with a higher frame rate as the headline improvement. Publishers have spent the months since the Switch 2’s pricing and release date reveal filling the console’s lineup with ports of proven catalog titles, and Ys VIII joins that wave four months ahead of its launch.

What the Switch 2 version adds

In the game, Adol awakens shipwrecked on a cursed island, where he and other survivors form a village and challenge the island’s beasts and ruins. The Switch 2 release keeps that setup intact while adding the 120 FPS ceiling and GameShare cooperation on top.

NIS America has not announced a price, pre-order details, or any upgrade path for owners of the 2018 Switch version. The launch sits about four months out, so a schedule change remains possible.
