The recently announced Pokémon Legends: Z-A got a somewhat surprising mention during today’s gigantic Nintendo Switch 2 Direct showcase. Even though it hasn’t been long since we last saw the game, it made a reappearance today to confirm that it will be receiving a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 Edition release. This means that Pokémon Legends: Z-A will have improved performance through boosted frame rates and higher resolution output on Switch 2.
Controversially, some Switch 2 Edition games will require a paid upgrade to enhance your copy of the game you already own. Japanese prices suggest these upgrade packs will cost between $10-20 depending on what it adds to the game, but some will be free. The upgrade pack for Pokémon Legends: Z-A currently has unknown pricing, but we’ll be sure to report back when we hear concrete details.
If we had to guess, as the upgrade pack only contains improved frame rates and resolution rather than any additional content, surely the maximum that can be charged for it is $10. This is entirely speculative, and debate is rife online as to whether these upgrades should even be paid in the first place. As it stands though, it will cost money to play games with significant enhancements as Switch 2 Editions – but some upgrades will be available at no extra cost to Nintendo Switch Online members.
