Simon’s 2014 Game of the Year – The Winner is….

2014 was filled with many great games, many disappointing ones and many that had a lot of potential but didn’t quite do what we wanted from them. I spent a while combing through the new games I had played in 2014 and finally came down to six games that I felt showed a lot of potential and were also enjoyable to play. Each game was chosen for a different reason as each was special in their own way, of course there are also games that did not make this list, and notably this was because they fell outside the rules of the list. These rules were quite simple namely specifying that the games for this list had to be new in 2014, so remakes or remastering’s were not allowed, so unfortunately the Last of Us missed out as a nominee. So to go over the nominees they are…

Before I announce the winner of my Game of the Year, I must first say that picking this game was not easy in fact I have spent weeks trying to pick between two games. Of course each game had a reason and each deserves to win but when it came down to it two games stood out and for very different reasons. One was for its story and the other for its endlessly fun gameplay, but in the end it really came down to which game I will play more often and so it was decided after countless debates that the winner is…

Hyrule Warriors

It was tough deciding between this game and The Walking Dead Season Two but in the end the fun gameplay and great use of a crossover won out. I had trouble deciding between the amazing story telling and decision making of the Walking Dead and the fun action centric gameplay of Hyrule Warriors. As I thought about it more though Hyrule Warriors won out strictly for the fun side of the scale with the game providing hours of fun and excitement of ruling the battlefield and seeing many of the Zelda Franchises most iconic ideas and locations. I never hid my fears before its release but the game quickly proved to be going above and beyond my own expectations. Another point I could make is the game is clever and though I doubt anyone would agree with my decision I stick with my choice and shout from the rooftops that I love Hyrule Warriors.

Would you by any chance agree with my decision, it would be nice if you let me know. I would also like to say that this is not all for the Game of the Year things with at least one more slated for February and I would like to say I did have a lot more planned for January but other things came up. Finally we will be seeing an article based on the Last of Us to tie in with 2014 with a look at Left Behind which I did not realize was released in 2014.
