Red Dead Redemption PS4 and Switch Port Confirmed

The original Red Dead Redemption will be coming to the Playstation 4 and the Nintendo Switch for the first time – more than thirteen years after it launched. As announced in a social media post from Nintendo UK, players can play the title and the “hallowed horror-story expansion” Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare from August 17, 2023, available from Nintendo’s online store (available for £39.99 in the UK).

A physical release of the port will launch on October 13. The re-release, for clarification, is defined as a “conversion” and not a remaster, confirming that this is not the remake that the Red Dead fanbase have been waiting for.

The new port doesn’t appear to include any graphical or technical enhancements, despite being backwards compatible for the PS5. Rockstar themselves are not handling the game and instead employing porting specialists Double Eleven for the final product.

Based in the UK, Double Eleven are known for their work on other titles, including Minecraft DungeonsRust, and Fallout 76. With the prospect of GTA 6 a long, long way off, players will now have another chance to dive into the Wild West as Rockstar focus on their next AAA title. Two years earlier, as GameLuster reported, a Youtube channel connected to the Western title predicted that we could see a remaster/remake. Now we know.

“When federal agents threaten his family, former outlaw John Marston is forced to hunt down the gang of criminals he once called friends. Experience Marston’s journey across the sprawling expanses of the American West and Mexico as he fights to bury his blood-stained past” an official synopsis for Red Dead Redemption reads.
