Nintendo Switch 2 Is The Fastest-Selling Console Ever

Nintendo just casually announced a historic achievement over on their social media pages – the newly released Nintendo Switch 2 is officially the fastest-selling Nintendo console in history. In just four days, the Nintendo Switch 2 managed to sell over 3.5 million units across the world, skyrocketing past the 2.74 million units of the original Nintendo Switch that took an entire month to sell.

Perhaps even more interestingly, and an even bigger potential milestone crossed here, is this appears to make the Nintendo Switch 2 the fastest-selling video game console of any platform in history. This fastest selling Sony console of all time is the PlayStation 5, which sold 4.5 million units between November 2020 and the end of that same year. Nintendo therefore has sold over 75% of that same figure in just four days. It stands to reason that if Sony released a four-day sales PR statement as Nintendo did, it would be lower than 3.5 million units of the Switch 2. Inversely, it’s all but guaranteed the Switch 2 will surpass 4.5 million units sold after just one month, let alone the two it would need to match Sony’s PS5 sales period.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has been the topic of conversation across the internet all weekend, and it translated to sales.

Whilst there’s no way that Nintendo themselves could ever officially determine the Switch 2 as the fastest-selling console of all time, the data we’ve got clearly suggests as much. Thus, as long as we get another update from Nintendo within the next month or so confirming an additional million units sold, it’s a clear winner for the record of fastest-selling video game console of all time. Analysts predicted this success for the Switch 2, but it’s wild to see it coming to fruition so quickly.
