We know the Nintendo Switch 2 is going to be big, and so do Nintendo themselves, but research analysis firm DFC Intelligence have shared their report on exactly how big we can expect the Switch 2 to be, and it’s gigantic. As stated in their latest report covering the Switch 2’s upcoming release, they believe that, by the end of 2029 in just over four years time after the Switch 2 launches, it will have sold over 100 million units.
This enormous forecast would make the Switch 2 the leading console of its generation, and as such, DFC Intelligence also believe that Nintendo could soon become “the primary partner for third-party game publishers” in the coming years. With such a giant and engaged audience, both publishers and developers are expected to be looking to the Switch 2 to reach the biggest share of the gaming market. With DFC themselves predicting anywhere from 15 to 20 million Switch 2 sales in just this year alone, it’s going to be a good time to release your games on Switch.

Nintendo being the dominant partner for third-party publishers would be a significant shakeup to the gaming industry. After long being seen as the side option to go alongside another console, Nintendo have slowly but surely risen in the ranks over the Switch era, now having one of the best-selling consoles of all time with over 100 million existing active users of 2017’s original Switch. With the upcoming Switch 2 forecast to perform so well and at a faster rate than the original Switch, the sky really is the limit for where Nintendo may be heading in the years to come.
